New York CNN —General Motors said Tuesday is recalling almost 900 vehicles worldwide because the Takata-made air bag inflator may explode, potentially striking drivers and passengers with sharp metal fragments. Millions of vehicles with air bags from Takata, the now-bankrupt Japanese manufacturer, are already under recall. NHTSA said that prolonged exposure to high heat and humidity cause those air bags to explode when deployed. Takata air bags caused at least 26 deaths in the United States and left more than 400 occupants with injuries that included blinding and maiming. In 2020, the American carmaker spent $1.2 billion replacing Takata air bags in 7 million vehicles.

A Colorado man says he was fired from King Soopers grocery store after filming a shoplifting incident. As it happens, King Soopers' parent company, Kroger, has a policy against engaging or interfering with shoplifters. Burrola told the Denver CBS affiliate he was suspended when he arrived for his next shift and fired the following week. A spokesperson for King Soopers did not respond to Insider's request for comment on this story. "I hope this changes the policy," Burrola told CBS regarding Kroger's stance, "and gives power back to retail workers like myself."

The Chevrolet Trax, with a starting price around $20,000, garnered compliments on a recent test drive. CNN —General Motors unveiled a new, slightly bigger redesigned version of its cheapest entry-level SUV, the Trax. The subcompact Trax SUV has a starting price of just $21,500, a couple of hundred dollars below it’s current price putting it firmly among the cheapest SUVs on the market. All versions of the Trax, including flashy-looking Trax RS models, will have starting prices under $25,000, GM executives said. The Venue, Hyundai’s cheapest SUV, is front-wheel-drive only but the slightly more expensive Kona offers all-wheel-drive as an option. Active noise cancellation will also be a standard feature on all Trax models.
